I represent an 'inclusive' India: Nusrat Jahan on 'fatwa'

Kolkata, Jun 30 (IANS): After being criticised for sporting vermilion and bangles and not wearing a 'burqa' in Parliament, actor-turned-politician Nusrat Jahan on Saturday said that she represents an "inclusive India".

"I represent an inclusive India which is beyond the barriers of caste, creed and religion," Jahan said in a statement that she later shared on Twitter.

She also wrote that she "respects all religions".

"I still remain a Muslim and none should comment on what I choose to wear. Faith is beyond attire and is more about believing and practicing the invaluable doctrines of all religions," Jahan said.

Criticising her "un-Islamic" post-marriage appearance at her oath-taking ceremony in Parliament on June 25, a group of Muslim clerics had issued a 'fatwa' against the newly-married Member of Parliament.

Jahan tied the knot with businessman Nikhil Jain on June 19.

it's her choice being a free Indian, but when you are a Muslim or Hindu or Christian, practice your religion to the full and respect other religion. if you are a Muslim you don't need to show with your attire or go to other religious places and pray and same with Hindu wearing the attire of muslim/wear skull cap go to masjid etc that means either you are doing show off or appeasement.
Simple phanada boss follows your religion and respect other religion that's what we learn here in Dubai and life is beautiful here.

agree with her totally. In my childhood days, we used to see only elderly muslim ladies wearing burqa occasionally.. Countries like Oman & UAE, muslim ladies does not cover her face in work places except Saudi.. Now even a school going girls wears burqa, Excess display of any religious identity by any individual in public places is not desirable. As she said faith is beyond attire.

These kind of people are called as MUNAFIQS or hypocrites as told in Quran who never have even small amount of faith or eemaan in their heart. We Muslims should only encourage practicing believers as our voice in Parliament like asaauddin ovaisi
