Mumbai, Jul 1 (IANS): Some wagons of a goods train derailed between Jambrung and Thakurwadi in the Western Ghats seriously hitting long-distance train services between Mumbai-Pune and beyond, an official said here in Monday.
The derailment took place around 4 a.m. in the Monkey Hills section of the Ghats, paralysing services. There were no casualties in the incident.
The Central Railway (CR) has cancelled or diverted several trains on the sector as work to clear wagons from the section was underway to facilitate normal traffic, said a CR spokesperson.
The CR cancelled Pune-CSMT Indrayani Express, Pune-CSMT Intercity Express, Pune-CSMT Deccan Express, CSMT-Pune Deccan Queen and CSMT-Pune Pragati Express. This has hit commuters between the two cities.
A few services are diverted via Kalyan-Igatpuri-Manmad, though the middle line on the section was restored and some long distance services resumed.
There were delays in the Mumbai suburban sector of CR on account of the derailment and heavy rains that continued for the fourth consecutive day.
