Rayudu announces retirement from all forms of cricket

New Delhi, Jul 3 (IANS): Middle-order Indian batsman Ambati Rayudu on Wednesday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Speaking to IANS, a senior BCCI official confirmed that Rayudu had written to the BCCI announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket. However, the batsman could not be contacted for a comment.

The right-handed batsman scored 1,694 runs at an average of 47.05 with a top score of 124* in the 55 ODIs he played for India. He scored three centuries and 10 fifties and had a strike rate of 79.04.

In six T20Is, he scored 42 runs at an average of 10.50. Besides, he also played 97 first-class matches in which he amassed 6,151 runs.

Rayudu was not included in the 15-member squad for the ongoing World Cup. Despite being named in the reserves, he was not called up in the squad after Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar suffered injuries and Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal were, instead, named as their replacements.

After he again missed a spot in India's World Cup team, Iceland Cricket in a bizarre tweet on Tuesday, offered the 33-year-old permanent residency in their country so that he could play for them.

After his initial World Cup snub, Rayudu had expressed his displeasure and also questioned the selectors' decision to pick Shankar over him with a tweet that mocked a statement by head selector M.S.K. Prasad who had said that "Vijay Shankar gives three dimensions" to the team.

"Just ordered a new set of 3-D glasses to watch the World Cup," Rayudu had tweeted in response.

Rayudu started his career as a gifted batsman and he even led the under 19 Indian team. However, issues of discipline always plagued him. He was always in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. They say one is the master of his own destiny and in case of Rayudu this proves to be correct. He is himself responsible for his plight. If not for his character flaws he would have been a established player in the Indian team a long time ago. His life therefore should be a lesson for all youngsters aspiring to play for the country. No matter how good a player you are, in a team sport your character and discipline plays a very important role and in these Rayudu failed miserably.

Had he kept quiet and not spoken of " 3D" glasses...he would have been in the team by now.
Sometimes it pays to keep your mouth shut.
It was not as if he was 'indispensable'!!....
When the likes of Dhoni!!!! are being questioned for their 'style' of batting nowadays...who is Rayudu???
Even the likes of YUVI were ignored!!
It's a lesson also for those who have limitations....
Have patience...your time will come... Don't rush things.... or be like a Ambati Rayudu....

Ambati Rayadu should have been in the Original 15 going by the recent past predestination he has efficiently made in ODI's.

To add insult to injury the selectors have not considered him twice and instead sent a unknown entity as replacement for injury and added insult to Injury..marking the Huntley end of a great Cricketer.

Its high time selectors are made to apologize for ruining careers and pay for the same.

The unknown entity u mentioned is the Karnataka opener and has 50+ avg in First Class Cricket and started his Test career down under with a bang. Rayadu wasn't good enough in IPL 2019 so missed his place.

He could be a victim of some politics the BCCI is playing. The BCCI is not justified in ignoring him after naming him one of the reserves. The BCCI has shot itself in the foot by doing this.
