Shimla, Jul 3 (IANS): Taking serious note of a school bus accident in Shimla, the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday constituted a three-member committee to examine causes of the mishap that resulted in the deaths of two schoolchildren and a driver.

The court directed the committee comprising Jaswant Singh, a Council of Indian Road Congress member, to examine the causes in order to minimise recurrence of such accidents within two weeks.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice V. Ramasubramanian and Justice Anoop Chitkara passed these orders taking suo motu cognisance of the bus accident which occurred two days ago.

The court directed that the committee should focus on availability of infrastructure, steps that can be taken by the government with least financial implications and to suggest ways and means of strengthening the law enforcement so far as traffic is concerned.

During the course of the hearing, amicus curiae Shrawan Dogra gave suggestions with regard to road and traffic management and alternate mode of transportation in and around Shimla.

The bench was also of the view that there was no need for committee of bureaucrats as civil society was to be taken into confidence in matters of such nature and the committee should be constituted of experts who know the magnitude of problem, its nature and possible solutions.

The court listed the matter for next hearing on July 17.
