Mumbai, Jul 4: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis gave his consent to Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) proposal to link voter ID cards to Aadhaar cards in order to avoid bogus voting. However, the CM rejected the demand that ballot paper be used instead of EVM in future assembly polls.
On Tuesday, the last day of the legislative council's monsoon session, NCP MLA Jitendra Avhad proposed that a recommendation be sent to the election commission to link voter ID cards and Aadhaar, and also to sort out the issue of missing names from the voters list as well. CM Fadnavis immediately accepted the suggestion and said, "I also felt the same. There is no proposal to table before the house as we can directly write to the election office in this regard. This will sort out the issue of bogus voters list."
The CM also said that he is trying to find a solution to the bogus voters list problem and a petition has been filed with the Bombay high court. NCP's suggestion of using ballot papers for upcoming polls was declined by council chairman Ramraje Nimbalkar, who said he will forward the request to the centre.
