The inaugural of the workshop was graced by the director of AIMIT, Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, Dr Rowena Wright, (dean), Reena Monteiro, (faculty coordinator, PUC), Kiran Shetty (faculty member, PUC), Lestan D Souza, (faculty coordinator, AIMIT), Mohammed Rabiyath Aslam (PU student council president), Azaan Ibrahim (PU student council secretary), and Simona Lisha Fernandes (PU student council joint secretary).

Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, director, AIMIT, led the gathering into a spiritual invocation through 15 minutes of prayerful awakening. He, then, went on to present the dynamics of leadership and enumerated some principles that form the core of leadership. He provided a perspective of service oriented leadership and harkened a call to the youthful gathering to be leaders of tomorrow.

The second session on ‘Leading like a leader’ was facilitated by Dr Rowena Wright, dean, MBA, and Dr Rajani Suresh, AIMIT. The session focused on the concept of leadership, the practice of leadership and some steps to be followed for effective leaderships. Taking a few cues from Stephen Covey’s ‘The third alternative’ and ‘The 8th habit’, the session tried to guide students into moving from effectiveness to greatness. In order to tap into greatness, the session recommended that students must find the right balance of four human attribute: talent, need, conscience and passion. At the nexus of these four attributes, the session maintained, lies voice-the unique personal significance that we possess.

Lestan Dsouza, the coordinator of the leadership programme and Aruna Menezes, MBA faculty handled the afternoon session. Lestan D’souza had a presentation on goals in life and instructed the students to have SMART (Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely) goals, giving a lot of examples of contemporary leaders. Through group activities and discussions he triggered the imagination of students to be open to dialogue in problem solving. Aruna Menezes, conducted the session on Levels of leadership and focused on the humane aspect of leadership in order to have an impact on society. She explained the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R Covey. She brought to their notice the fact that the way we see the world is entirely based on our own perceptions. In order to change a given
situation, we must change ourselves, and in order to change ourselves, we must be able to change our perceptions.

The programme ended with the distribution of certificates to the participants. The students expressed their overwhelming appreciation for this unique programme.
