SpiceJet technician dies after getting trapped in landing gear door

Kolkata, Jul 10: A 22-year-old SpiceJet technician lost his life while on the job. The deceased has been as identified as Rohit Pandey. He got stuck in the main landing gear door of an aircraft he was working on.

The ghastly incident took place at Kolkata airport around 1.30 am while Pandey was working on the landing gear of a Bombardier Q400. According to sources, the gear doors closed down on him and ended up trapping Pandey inside.

The accident is raising eyebrows after several excursions on runway by SpiceJet aircraft are coming to light. This directly puts the airline under the DGCA scanner. Already, four show-cause notices have been slapped on SpiceJet for poor training standards, the airline company has still not commented anything in this regard.

Back in 2015, an Air India technician was killed in an accident at Mumbai airport. Ravi Subramanian (56), had got sucked into the engine when the co-pilot was preparing to take off, his body ended up severely mutilated.

In the matter of the accidental death of Rohit Pandey, local police officials have already initiated a probe.

I hope these airlines realise that money making is not their only motive. Even if they are fined heavily they will make up the costs from passengers air tickets. The only solution is by bringing back jet airways or setting up another passenger & pocket friendly airline and compete with them.
