Washington, Jul 18: Often seen that people seem to carry their babies on the left arm, primary reason for this is the fact that emotions are processed in the right hemisphere which is linked to the left side of the human body.
In a study it was found that over 72 per cent of people prefer to cradle an infant on the left arm. Further, it was found that 74 per cent right-handed people prefer cradling on the left compared to the left-handed people who only accounted for 61 per cent. When it comes down to men, 64 per cent of them prefer the left whereas 73 per cent of women wanted to cradle the baby on their left arm.
Some studies also believe that right-handed people use the left arm for cradling so that they can use the more deft arm for doing other tasks.
The right hemisphere of the brain is always associated with emotions, causing new mothers to establish strong emotional bond with their baby during pregnancy. The mothers shift the baby into their left visual field, to link them to their right hemisphere.
Another observation made was regarding the men who do not prefer to hug other men. This specific group of men only hug from the left side, thus, displaying negative emotions.
