New Delhi, Jul 19: On Thursday, a senior government official from Jammu and Kashmir alleged that he was unable to carry forward his father’s dead body due to traffic restrictions for the Amarnath Yatra on Thursday.
It was reported that Imtiyaz Wani, director finance in Jammu and Kashmir government, was travelling from Jammu to his hometown in Srinagar with his father’s dead body, by ambulance. The ambulance was stopped by the police to make way for the convoys carrying Amarnath pilgrims.

In his facebook post Wani wrote 'All civil rights are subordinate to Amarnath Yatra while moving from Jammu to Srinagar. I am not being allowed to carry forward my father's dead body. What hell the life of a common Kashmiri is. Inspector Rakesh of J & K police on yatra duty categorically said the body shall not be allowed'.
However, the police claimed it as a ‘misrepresentation of facts’ and said the ambulance was stopped as it tried to overtake the convoy.
As per the police, the ambulance was trying to overtake the Yatra convoy which was not allowed by the convoy commander. “The person in the ambulance claimed that the vehicle is carrying the dead body of his father, but the convoy commander could not verify the facts in the moving convoy. Thus, the vehicle was not allowed to overtake it," said a senior police official.
Five-hours restriction has been placed by the administration on locals travelling on the arterial highway between Jammu and Srinagar for 46 days, till the pilgrimage ends.
