Mangaluru: Direct flights to New Delhi to become reality again

Mangaluru, Jul 20: SpiceJet will begin to operate direct flights to New Delhi from the airport here soon. Direct flight services between these two destinations had been suspended for the last several months. The flights will begin to connect these two cities on August 4.

As per the current information, SpiceJet will operate an aircraft between the city and New Delhi. The flight will leave at 6.15 am and reach New Delhi at 8.55 am. On its return journey, the flight will leave New Delhi at 8.30 pm and reach here at 11.15 pm. This flight will begin its return journey the next morning.

In the past, Jet Airways used to operate a flight between the city and the capital city of India. The flight was taken off the chart a few months back. Thereafter, no direct flights were available to New Delhi from here. Passengers visiting Delhi had to go either to Mumbai or Bengaluru to catch onward flights to Delhi.

In view of the problems faced by passengers, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, had met union minister for civil aviation with a request to introduce direct flights between these two cities again.

Currently, SpiceJet, IndiGo, and Air India operate flights to Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Dubai, Doha, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Muscat from the international airport here.

    I enjoyed my Vistara (non stop) flight Bangalore/Delhi and return with Biryani and Chicken Tikka served on board at a very low fare on 1st January 2019.

    Vistara is india's best Airline too.

    6.15 am is too early .One has to reach the airport at an odd time of 4 am !! .it would be really benifit commuters if the timmings are after 8.30 am

    Compared to other destinations, a few people other than politicians travel to Delhi. Half of the flight may have to go empty. It will be better to give a stopover at Pune or Ahmedabad since many professionals from Mangalore are now working in these cities. Otherwise it may have to be called off in a few months as it happened in case of Air India.

    The STOPOVER in either Pune or Ahmedabad is recommended and viable for any airline operating to Delhi from Mangalore.

    I used to fly with Jet Airways when they had direct flights and the occupancy rates was slightly above 50%

    Spice jet has a bad reputation of being off time .. never the less ..its good that there is direct flight ..Mangaloreans should see this as business opportunity too .. Maybe fresh mallige can be sent to new delhi on a daily basis.

    Very good move by Nalin Kumar Kateel sir. One more request from my end for people working in Oman. We are depending only on Air India express to come from Muscat to Mangalore. Air India express operates only on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. The timing also inconvenient as it is working day and we have to apply additional 1 day extra leave. If one more service provider can be introduced in Muscat-Mangalore sector which can depart in evening hours on Thursday will be an advantage to the large number of NRI's working in Oman. We have huge hopes on Nalin sir and hope the day comes soon

    That's mind-blowing news. After flights from Mangalore to New Delhi was discontinued for unknown reasons, passengers travelling to New Delhi had a tough time, both money wise and time wise too.

    Very good decision. I welcome this. At the same time I request concern authorities to start Mangalore-Goa service. Or give a stop at Goa any flight running between Mangalore and Mumbai or this Delhi flight.

    Many times I flown to Delhi a d back by Jet Airways a nd even week days flight is more than 70% occupancy.I presume Spice jet also get encouragement.
