Mangaluru, Jul 21: Day by day, the suspected incidents of dengue are increasing in the district of Dakshina Kannada. On Saturday, July 20 alone, 24 people were admitted to hospitals for high fever. Out of this, 22 were said to be suffering from dengue fever. The total number of people affected by dengue has now increased to 426 as per the information given by the officials of the health department. 

Due to the background of the incidents of dengue in the district, including the city of Mangaluru, the district administration, MCC and health department have intensified the preventive measure like fogging, spraying of mosquito repellant chemical etc. 200 teams of two people each are formed to carry out this work. MCC personnel carried out fogging at residences and public places on Saturday, July 20. Four teams, led by four senior officers are formed by the deputy commissioner for supervising these activities. 

Dr Navinchandra, district malaria control officer, said, "Veena Nayak of Kadaba died of dengue three weeks ago. It is also suspected that dengue was the reason for the death of eight-year-old Krish and Shraddha K Shetty, a resident of Gujjarakere in the city. The death audit process has to be undertaken at the district and state level. This will take 15 days. Only after that, the doubts will be cleared." 

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "All the concerned officers have been instructed to take suitable action in order to prevent and control the dengue epidemic. I have instructed the authorities of district hospital Wenlock to stock the required medicines," 

"Private hospitals have to treat the patients reporting with dengue fever on high priority. Villages have to be visited and information regarding the dengue fever should be given and also treatment, in case of fever, should be given after blood tests. The school authorities should give permission for students to dress in such a way to cover their whole body," said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
