US envoy 'strong believer' in value of museums

New Delhi, Jul 22 (IANS): US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster on Monday called himself "a strong believer in the value of these institutions and what they have to offer" and highlighted the role of cultural affairs in the US-India bilateral relationship.

"The US-India relationship has undergone a significant transformation over the last two decades, and our ties today are as close as they've ever been. We cooperate on an extensive range of issues, including defence, counterterrorism, trade, investment, energy, the environment, health, education, science and technology, and much more," Juster said while opening a three-day summit on India's museums.

"Cultural affairs is another important area where our experts are collaborating," the envoy said in his address.

He was speaking on the first day of the All India Museum Summit 2019, which is organised by the American Institute of Indian Studies.

On a more personal note, Juster recalled the "world's very best museums" he had the chance to visit in New York, where he grew up, and Washington DC, where he lived for many years.

"The 21st century has brought much change to the field of museum curation and also more opportunities. Thanks to advances in technology, museums can reach more people than ever before," his keynote added.

He concluded by saying that the foundation of the US-India relationship is "the strong ties between our people".
