Mangaluru: 'Stay away from dengue, never allow water to stagnate' - Dr Kakkilaya

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jul 23: Physician Dr Srinivas Kakkilaya urged the people to keep their surroundings clean and exhorted them to take all kinds of precautionary measures to keep the disease at bay, in view of rising dengue cases across the district.

Addressing the media here on Monday July 22, Dr Srinivas Kakkilaya said, "The people should give utmost priority to cleanliness and should desist from expecting the officials and Mangaluru City Corporation to take precautionary measures to prevent dengue. The present weather pattern is highly conducive to mosquito breeding and people should make sure that fresh water does not remain stagnant, as fresh standing water helps to breed mosquito which in turn spreads dengue. So, cleanliness needs to be given the utmost priority to prevent dengue and such other diseases and take care to drain away all the fresh water which is stagnant,”

He also said, "If a person is suffering from normal fever there is no need of going for NS1 test. If the symptoms of dengue are found such as body ache, rashes, vomiting etc, then the person should consult the doctor. People should not panic when such symptoms are noticed as there is no specific treatment for dengue.”

District health officer, M Ramakrishna Rao, said, "Three people have lost their lives due to dengue in the district and the department has been taking all types of measures to tackle dengue."

MCC Commissioner, Mohammed Nazeer, deputy commissioner (revenue), Gayanthri Nayak, and health officials were present.

There are open drains running all over the place in mangalore. There is one just behind the KMC attavar hospital. Mangalore city corporation should be taken to court for not providing basic civic amenties to the people and for their incompetence.

Docs advice is good, but we cannot just wipe out mosquitoes as they have become resistant to all sorts of repellants! Somebody should invent an idea of developing a parasite which would annihilate mosquitoes, like the guppy fish which devour mosquito larvae!

BTW, it's a matter of luck that with only one bite from a rogue mosquito one can get the infection, but someone with multiple bites of non infective mosquitoes may not get infected!

Is it possible to totally evade mosquito bites as we have to move from place to place for study, work, etc.??

Water stagnation in Mlore is due to unscientific half done incompleted jobs and concrete roads...
Let the MCC take the responsibility to complete the work.
Where water percolation used to take place and there used to be no water stagnation..MCC is largely responsible for the same today.
Construction of concrete drains has aggravated the problem instead of solving it. How long have the public to tolerate such nonsense..?
