Amarnath Yatra briefly halted in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jul 23 (IANS): The ongoing Amarnath Yatra was momentarily halted on Tuesday after a suspicious looking object was found on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Kulgam district, police sources said.

The object was found on in Malpora. "Teams of state police, army and the CRPF were immediately sent to examine the object. After nothing suspicious was found, traffic on the highway was restored," the sources said.

The annual Hindu pilgrimage to the cave shrine in Kashmir Himalayas has been continuing peacefully since July 1.

More pilgrims have performed the Amarnath Yatra in the past 22 days than they did during the entire 60-day stretch of the yatra last year, officials said.
