Bhopal, Jul 25: Madhya Pradesh government has made a U-turn on their pre-election promise of giving unemployment allowance to the youth in the state. As reported in Aaj Tak, chief minister Kamal Nath on Tuesday, clarified in the Legislative Assembly that there is no provision in place to give allowances to the registered unemployed youth in the state.
The CM said this while replying to a question asked by Congress MLA Munnalal Goyal in the assembly. Goyal had asked the government whether it was working on any plan to give allowance to unemployed youth. Earlier, the Congress government, in the run-up to the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh last December, had promised that it will pay an unemployment allowance of upto Rs 4,000 to the registered unemployed youth in the state.

Kamal Nath in a written reply to the question said the government has no plans to give an allowance, he however added that various state and central schemes will be implemented and the government will provide training to the youth and enhance their skills to help them get employment.
Leader of opposition, Gopal Bhargava had earlier alleged that the Congress government had cheated the youth by not keeping its election promise of giving them a jobless allowance. He had said that the government made no mention in the budget with regard to the unemployment allowance. The opposition leader also pointed out that the state government should take concrete steps to fulfil the promises on which they sought votes from the people.
The Congress party, in its ‘Vachan Patra’ (election manifesto), had promised Rs 10,000 as unemployment allowance for one young member of the family for three years and Rs 51,000 at the time of a girl’s marriage. The state government had also worked on a blueprint to provide training and jobs to unemployed youth for 100 days yearly.
