CPI-ML New Democracy rebel killed in encounter in Telangana


Hyderabad, Jul 31 (IANS): A member of left-wing extremist outfit CPI-ML (New Democracy) was killed in an encounter with the police in Telangana's Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Wednesday.

The exchange of fire occurred in Rollagadda Devallagudem forest area in the district, bordering Chhattisgarh, police said.

The encounter took place during intensified search operations by Telangana police in view of the ongoing martyrs' week being observed by the CPI-M (Maoist).

The police personnel came face-to-face with an armed squad of CPI-ML (New Democracy), a splinter group of Maoists.

The rebels allegedly opened fire, forcing the police to retaliate. One rebel was killed while two others were arrested by the police. Two guns were also recovered from the scene.
