Mangaluru, Jul 31: A new parking policy is being introduced at the Mangaluru International Airport from August 1, in line with the new vehicle parking policy of the Airports Authority of India. 

According to the new policy, cars and other vehicles will be charged Rs 20 parking fee for 30 minutes. The charge for two-wheelers would be Rs 10 for the same time period, while coaches, buses and trucks will be charged Rs 30 for 30 minutes. This information was given by director of Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) V V Rao. 

For 30 to 120 minutes or two hours, the charges applicable are Rs 15 for two-wheelers, Rs 55 for cars, Rs 60 for SUVs, tempos and mini buses and Rs 70 for coaches, buses and trucks.

Once the period of two hours is over, the rate would be increased by Rs 10 per hour up to seven hours for all vehicles except two wheelers. The corresponding rate for two-wheelers would be Rs five. The parking rates from seven hours to 24 hours will be 300% of 30 minutes to 120 minutes and every 24 hour or part thereof. 

Passengers entering and leaving the airport will be more comfortable with the new system as they will not be stopped or blocked at the entry or exit points. The charges for vehicles have to be paid only if the vehicles enter the designated area only. 

The vehicles are not permitted to park or stop for more than three minutes at the entry and exit roads or lanes or in front of terminal building. The defaulting individuals will be slapped a penalty of four times the applicable parking charges for 30 minutes to two hours slab as per the details given by V V Rao. 

Canopy that is fully covered is provided in front of the terminal building and entry of vehicle from the arrival side to the flyover is restricted as per the details given by the director.
