Bengaluru: Tipu Jayanti cancellation - Speaker blocks attempt to raise issue

Daijworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Aug 1: Leader of the Congress legislature party, Siddaramaiah, tried to raise the issue of cancellation of Tipu Jayanti celebrations by the state government in the assembly on Wednesday July 31. On this occasion, the chief minister walked out of the house, while the Speaker adjourned the session in spite of resistance from JD(S) and Congress legislators.

As soon as the process of the election of new Speaker concluded, Siddaramaiah moved ahead to take up the said matter for discussion. At that time the chief minister, as scheduled, was about to travel to Chikkamagaluru to pay his last respects to deceased entrepreneur V G Siddharatha Hegde. Although the Congress legislators raised objections, Yediyurappa went ahead with his programme.

Siddaramaiah said that the chief minister was not in order in going away without hearing the matter that was informed to the chief minister as important. He noted that there are no ministers in the state now and the chief minister alone is functioning. He said he wanted to discuss the cancellation of Tipu Jayanti celebrations but noted that in the absence of Yediyruappa, it is like the entire government is absent. Many Congress leaders including Krishna Byregowda condemned the chief minister for his action.

At this juncture, Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, said that the leader of the Congress legislature party had not submitted call attention motion informing the issue he planned to raise. As the Congress members continued to raise din, the Speaker adjourned the session.

A law should be made that politicians should celebrate Thithis, Jayanthis of all leaders they like at their own expense and at their own place...
Then slowly all these celebrations will die a slow death....
Public money should be used with due care...

In the present scenario we don't want any bla bla jayanthi...! No more violence, no more public fund waste., add at least some mind over some development works for the vote sake at least.
Siddu continued a same manthra to please one community. We don't want to waste money for show off, use for creative work or damage control.
JDS people and Congi people need any issue to raise in the Assembly of no use. Here too they waste Assembly hours I mean public funds.Minster CM , go ahead with the firm stand, for the public interest.

Appreciate the action of the speaker, in blocking any discussion on a relgious despot, who butchered many Indians, savagely converted them and destroyed their cultures and places of worship !!Congress has played this dangerous, divisive, strategy, since ages and ruled the nation under one family rule...... India must live under one nation , one common law .... No appeasement to any !!!! Vande Mataram !!!!!

    H. Almeida., Bendur/Andheri,
You are right! There shouldn't be any appeasement to anyone. Unfortunately money is wasted in Kumbh ( 4236 crores) and building statues (3000 crores for SVP and another 4500 crore in Maharashtra )also! I believe you will name this desh Bhakti!!!! That money could have easily used for the welfare of the citizens, specially farmers and poor people.
One more is coming up in Ayodhya ( cost not available ), whereas for not paying couple of lacks more than 100 children died! I believe you will again call this as deshbhakti!!!
I am not in favor of Tipu Jayanti ( i am happy that they canceled it) .My concern is why only Tippu? Why not other jayantis, building of statues, sponsoring of Melas!!!

A goat is required to guide the herd of sheep. Thank you BSY for cancelling Tipu Jayanti.

The AHINDA leader is not aware that soon after Tipu inherited the territory from his father Hyder Ali in January 1784, he issued orders to seize the Christians in Canara, confiscate their estates, and deport them to Seringapatam. His orders were carried out on 24 Feb 1784. 20,000 Christians died during the journey from Mangalore to Seringapatam. During captivity they suffered extreme hardships, torture, rape, death and persecutions with many Christians forcibly converted to Islam. The captivity brought the flourishing Christian community in Mangalore to near extermination and ended only when Tipu was killed by the British at the Battle of Seringapatam on 4 May 1799.

    And still Tipu Jayanti?

Today is birthday of Bharat Ratna Purushottam Das Tandon, who was instrumental in getting Hindi the official language status during British rule. Does any of these congressmen know about this?

Those who really believe that Tippu destroyed temples and churches should use their brains and realize if it was really true, Mangalore/ mysore/ Srirangapatna or whole of South INDIA wouldn’t have had all the famous temples or churches which are still standing tall.

Tiger was titled "TIGER OF MYSORE" by the brithishers themselves.
Tiger doesn't need a certificate from Saffron RATS

The opposition parties must raise the issues related to the living people and not of the dead. There are many more problems/issues related to the common people, instead of debating on those issues, congress is trying to run behind Tippu Jayanti.

It’s very unfortunate that none of Indian history books mention anything about Tippu's brutal killings and forceful conversions, instead they glorify him as great ruler just because he fought against British. It forces me to believe that all these history records are one sided

Please declare non-bailable offense against who wish to celebrate Tippu Jayanthi. We need shanti and not jayanthi in society. Are seen earlier disturbances occur all over due to this jayanthi. Put them jail. We need more jail in future...just keep it ready.

Well done speaker. Hope you able to run assembly smoothly. Tippu is an brutual killer. Before celebrating let they reinstate 85000 temples and about 25 churches which destroyed by constructing masjid on it.
