New Delhi: MP Nalin demands super specialty hospital for Mangaluru

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi (MS)

New Delhi, Aug 2: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel met Dr Harshavardhan, union minister for health and family welfare in the capital on Thursday, August 1 and urged him to grant a super specialty hospital to the city of Mangaluru under the 'Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surakhsha Yojana' scheme.

In his appeal MP Nalin has highlighted that the establishment of a super specialty hospital in Mangaluru will encourage health sector in the coastal region of Karnataka. In addition, it will be convenient for commoners to avail advanced treatment at reasonable cost.

MP Nalin also invited the minister to be the chief guest for the 'Guru Vandana Chathra Abhinandana' programme, which is organized by the Bharath Vikas Parishad in Mangaluru on September 14. He also asked the minister to inaugurate the new hospital built at Kateel, which will be run by Manipal Academy of Higher Education, on October 7 and also to visit the campus of Manipal Academy of Higher Education on the same day or on October 5. The minister who responded to the request of MP Nalin assured that he will take part in some of these programmes.

There was hardly any mention of healthcare in Union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman’s maiden budget speech. It did not touch upon even flagship schemes of the Narendra Modi government as expected by experts. India’s Defence Budget is Nearly Five Times the Health Budget
Out of the 27 major items of expenditure, health gets the 14th largest funding this year at Rs 63,538 crore.
The budgetary allocation for the Department of Health and Family Welfare has been increased by 15% to Rs 62,659 crore (BE 2019-20) from the Revised Estimate for 2018-19.

Unlike last time, when allocation for the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) fell, this it was increased to Rs 27,039 crore. The 7.11% raise, however, may not be enough to better rural health infrastructure. The government’s own Economic Survey said rural health infra was crying for care.

MP Nalinji, Canara citizens need affordable health care facility, not specialty hospital. We have so many super-specialty clinics and hospitals in this district still unable to find the solution for Dengue and Filaria problem.

Thailand spends as much of its GDP on health as India, yet it offers the entire range of healthcare services to all citizens for free. All it asks for is a voluntary payment of 30 baht, or Rs 60, from those who can afford it. For comparison, the daily minimum wage in the country is 300 baht.

Union Minister being successful ENT need lessons from Thailand for universal health coverage to invest in public systems and human resources.

This minister saw one bed shared by four patients in Muzzafurpur in Bihar and ran away from his duty. Do you expect a super specialty hospital for Mangaluru.
    Jai Hind

Mr. MP, you seem to have forgotten that the two government hospitals - Wenlock and Lady Goschen - are in pathetic state. First, set them right and then demand for a super specialty hospital. Otherwise, it will have the same fate as the former hospitals.

Mangaluru desperately requires, infrastructures, for the growth of industries.... There is no livelihood, in the entire Dakshin Kannada district !!! Educated youths, have no options, but to migrate to another developed towns, cities n even across continents !!! Leaving their elderly parents...most don't ever come back !!!!
This is nothing but an exodus of locals n infiltration by outsiders ... This is the fundamental cause of the rapid demographic changes in the district...
Nalin Sir, We already have more then 50 hospitals.... the city is only an educational n medical tourist center, where a few institutions n trust generate wealth, leaving the locals high n dry !!! NO HOSPITALS ONLY INDUSTRIES AND IT HUB FOR DAKSHIN KANNADA DISTRICT !!!!

Sirji why we need a super se upper specialty hospital in Mangalore. There are so many hospitals in Mangalore and people from other districts and states come here for treatment. Why don't you improve the existing situation in Mangalore or DK.
By the way first finish the project lingering for a decade the Pumpwell flyover before it becomes a tourist destination.
