Mangaluru: Siddhartha Hegde death - Commissioner orders investigation within 3 days

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Aug 2: Outgoing city police commissioner, Sandeep Patil, said that the investigating team involved with investigating the shocking death of Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) founder, V G Siddhartha Hegde, has been instructed to conclude its work in three days.

"Four investigating teams had been formed for this case. As Siddhartha's mortal remains have been since found, the first two teams have become irrelevant now. Out of the remaining two teams, one team has gone to Bengaluru to investigate family and business issues. The other team will concentrate on technical investigation," he said on Thursday, August 1.

 Siddhartha Hegde

Patil said that the investigating team has taken into possession the letter written by Siddhartha before his arrival here, in which he has made allegations against income tax officers. "We are looking into the genuineness of the letter after which the charges made therein would be looked into. So far we have not served any inquiry notice to income tax officials," Patil stated.

Patil said that information would be collected from the financial advisors of Siddhartha and that detailed information would be collected from the main advisors who are currently outside the country, once they return. A few economic advisors have been asked to extend support to the investigation, he added.

Patil revealed that Anti Corruption Bureau team from here had visited Bengaluru to meet family and close ones of Siddhartha. The investigation is currently being led by city (south) assistant commissioner of police, Kodandarama. The driver of Siddhartha has been questioned. The police have gathered details of Siddhartha's movements from Brahamarakootlu tollgate to Pumpwell till his disappearance from Netravati Bridge, he stated.

The postmortem of Siddhartha's body was performed at Wenlock Hospital here on Wednesday. The medical officers had said that the report would be submitted to the medical superintendent of the hospital within 30 days. But police sources believe that the report would be prepared and submitted before that.

On the basis of information gathered so far, the police believe that this is a case of suicide. The commissioner said that at this phase more information cannot be revealed.   Although many have pointed out that the shirt worn by Siddhartha was not found on his body, the police argue that there is chance of him having removed it before jumping into the river, or it would have come off later, as its absence alone cannot be the reason to believe that it was not a suicide.

Without risk there is no reward, no growth, no employment. However, if department behaves like goons to harass businessmen, India would lose its position in the world. Failures are part of business and a clear distinction should be made between fraud and failure, which unfortunately is lacking in India.

VGS had provided employment oppurtunities agreed , wish he had done it in a cleaner and non murkier way. He was in the IT radar since 2017 when Cong leader DKS was raided. You cannot get away by doing wrong. When Nirav and Mallya fled the Cong Ghulams blamed Modi stating that the Taxation was not strict enough. Now when someone is caught evading tax, the Ghulams say Modi is responsible for taxation. We are still waiting for comments from the Cong president, the Mr, Bean of India.

CCD has good ambience, and classy set up with well educated staff.
The Coffee and rest of the products are not that great, its similar to a Rs 15 cup and is sold for Rs 150/-. One is just consuming the name or would have it if there is no choice . I have visited CCD in many metros in India and never found it packed with people even during peak hours. Looking at it I was wondering how this place makes profit.

    I fully agree with you.
These are just my guesses ....
A person who suicides will not remove his shirt & Jump . The t shirt will never come off unless he has worn very loose one
IF he had suicide why didn't he leave his phone watch in the Car .
Why was hid body not swollen even after 36 hrs.
The body should have straight flown into the sea but it was on the river bank .There no strong waves in the river to push the body towards river bank.
The driver saw him walking towards the bridge & again back but it is s aid due to heavy rain then he couldn't se him. If it started raining them why didn't the driver assist him by taking a umbrella to see he doesn't become wet .Why was driver still sitting in the car for more then 1 hour when he knew it was raining .he could have gone out of the car in 10 mins with an umbrella .
    Doesn't this sound fishy ..
Need a proper investigation .But saying this Money power can change anything ...

Its fishy no doubt. Mind you he wore a Tshirt that would never come off. More over the body is not blotted as well. Gen if it death thru drowning the stomach and body inflates due to water. In this case if was not. He had died before he hit the water for sure. But then lots of cash might have exchanged hands and for sure this will be swept under the carpet in couple of days.

    Mr.Paul,
first of all its very sad to loose such a gentleman who has helped more than 1lkh family. very painful to loose someone like him, let god give strength and courage to his family. let his soul rest in peace.

you are totally right, if you see the dead body wrist watch still in place ,body is not swollen, how the T shirt has come out just like that???? driver need to be questioned . even though he is facing lot of debt issues he must have thought of coming out of it. Why did he call DK shivakumar???
i feel this is a clear case of murder. lot of people must have involved in this why he had to go ullala definitely someone must have called him to meet in the said location.
Driver is full time with him more than his family, am sure he must be knowing each and every thing about Mr. Siddhartha.
if you trace out all the incoming calls am sure culprit will be caught. impartial probing has to be done.

Vijay, CCD is not a street vendor shop. They pay lakhs of rent and salary to several staff, hygiene standards can not be possible with 15 rs. I prefer CCD coffee for ambiance, WiFi and hygiene standards.

You are right Anil. Moreover, on his way there were so many places he could have taken such a step. Why Ullal of all the places.? And there is no way the cps can claim the shirt came off later. Why will he remove only the shirt and not shoes and watch?chances are shirt came of while trying to escape. Driver is also involved. Let us no think drivers are poor fellows . They meet their bosses friends and contacts and become smarter than their bosses. He had enough assets to repay his liabilities.

Better you come down for some days and join investigating team. Please dont judge without having a solid proof.

Why you involve poor driver..to whom siddharth told wants to go to native place. Actually calculation of siddarth went wrong for which he poured easy money from lenders. How much earn by selling a cup of cofee.
Due to his investment in share market he able to cover all other businesses. Now most of receip's of companies in share market almost collapsed. Prices of shares of most of companies are very low. People like siddharth are after to recover quick money...as he his expert in it in dealings. Khudha ko kuch aur manzoor tha. How many rent may be be giving to coffee outlets which he opened mostly in posh areas and heart of city. His profit was less and expense was more. Once you wobt tackle expenses it turn to burden.
