Mangaluru: Lions International launches ‘Go Green’ initiative at SJEC

Mangaluru, Aug 3: On the occasion of the installation ceremony of the district cabinet of Lions International, a Go Green event was organized at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, on Saturday, August 3. This event was jointly hosted by Community Engagement Group, Eco Club and NSS wing of SJEC.

The event was witnessed by several eminent personalities from Lions Club which included Lion Ronald Gomes-District Governor of Lions International, Lion HT Seetharam, Lion MadhavaUllal, Lion PrashanthPai among others. The event was also attended by Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director of SJEC, Fr Rohith D’Costa, assistant director of SJEC, Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, assistant director of SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal of SJEC along with staff and students of the college.

During the event, Lions International handed over plant saplings to the authorities of SJEC as a symbolic gesture of launching their Go Green initiative.

Lion Ronald Gomes stressed the importance of trees to maintain a clean ecosystem and thanked the management of SJEC for supporting Lions International in their venture. Dr Rio D’Souza said that the college is proud that the Go Green event is taking place at the campus and urged all students to contribute in keeping the environment in good health.

Post a brief gathering, all the dignitaries came together in planting the saplings on the college campus.

    Go Green is really wonderful initiative Mr. Ronald but you had converted the beautiful green land near Loretto Church by cutting all the trees. Go green in City and cutting down trees at loretto for commercial purpose?
