Mangaluru, Aug 4: A boat that was fishing near the Tannirbhavi Beach overturned due to high waves in the sea. This incident occurred on Saturday, August 3. Fortunately, all the nine fishermen on the boat were rescued by another fishing boat.

Shabbir, Nasir, Riyaz, Ashique, Laxman, L R Rao, Krishna, Guru and Pawan were in the boat. This boat named 'Shabbir', owned by Shabbir, was fishing near the Tannirbhavi Beach at around 7.45 am. Suddenly the strong wind in the sea caused the waves to surge to great heights, due to which the boat got overturned and all the nine men were thrown into the sea.

On seeing the boat overturning and fishermen thrown into the sea, two boats, 'Suvarna Kusuma' and 'Sri Rama', engaged in fishing in nearby water, swung into action and rescued all the men from drowning.

Later, the affected boat was brought to the shore with the help of locals.

All the fishermen in the overturned boat are said to be safe.

There is no safety equipment like Life Raft or even basic life jacket is not existing in those fishing boats. All boats must be equipped with basic sea safety equipment, as always cant rely on other boats to rescue them.
I hope the authorities will wake up and make the basic sea safety utmost priority.
