Unnao rape survivor's lawyer to reach Delhi by noon


New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS): Mahendra Singh, the lawyer of the Unnao rape survivor who was critically injured in the July 28 accident in Rae Bareli, will reach the national capital by noon on Tuesday as he was being airlifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

According to a statement issued by Aeromed Airambulances, the lawyer, doctor Rajender Singh and a paramedic was being airlifted.

Manish Aggarwal, Director of the Aeromed International Rescue Services, said the airambulance would land in Delhi by 12.30 p.m. following which Mahendra Singh would be shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre.

The decision to airlift the lawyer, who is said to be critical and in deep coma though he has been taken off the ventilator, and the rape survivor was taken on the directions of the Supreme Court.

The lawyer and the rape survivor were critically injured in the accident when a truck crashed into their car. The rape survivor's two aunts were killed in the accident.

The rape survivor and the lawyer had been undergoing treatment at the King George's Medical University in Lucknow.

The CBI has been asked to investigate the conspiracy behind the accident.

All cases related to the Unnao rape that involves expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar have been transferred to Delhi.

Sengar too has been transferred to Tihar Jail in the national capital.
