Bengaluru, Aug 6: A Bengaluru-based music band was thrashed for not playing Kannada songs while at a concert in the city. The incident occurred on a Friday, in Pheonix Marketcity Mall in Whitefield, Bengaluru. Once the band, Musication, wrapped up their show, two men in an inebriated state approached them. As the band members were packing their instruments, the men asked them to play Kannada songs, indulging in their request the band played one song.

“The two drunk men asked us to then play a Kannada song with all the sound setup, but all our equipment was disconnected from the sound system by the mall staff. But they insisted that we play with the sound setup, so we asked them to approach the mall staff,” said Somanath, one of the band members.

After getting no permission from the mall staff for the sound setup, the drunk duo charged at bass guitarist Rudra, to thrash him up, but luckily missed him. With situation intensifying, Anubhav, another member of the band, recorded the incident on his phone. Soon after, other men who were part of the drunk mob joined in. The mob found Anubhav recording and began beating him up with the mike stand and smashed his phone. The mall security then came into the picture which led to the attackers fleeing the scene.

The CCTV footage of the incident has been submitted to the Jurisdictional Mahadevpura Police Station and the band is carefully monitoring the case. Earlier in the past, a similar case had taken place when a Kerala hip hop band had their microphone turned off during a performance at a pub in Bengaluru, this took place after three people from the audience objected to the band singing Malayalam songs.
