Mangaluru: Traffic prohibited on Shiradi Ghat as trees fall across road

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Aug 7: Traffic on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru state highway 75 is presently prohibited. Due to the incessant rains pouring since the past two days in the Ghat section, many trees have fallen across the road.

Trees have fallen across the road on Shiradi Ghat at four places. Because of this, the vehicular movement is badly affected. The road clearing operation is in progress with the cooperation from the locals. There is a long queue of vehicles to enter the Ghat region, as soon as it gets open for public.

The movement of vehicles is affected in the Charmadi Ghat region also, due to the continuous rains. Landslide has occurred on the second, eighth and ninth bends of the Ghat. In addition, trees are fallen at 10 places on the roads in the Ghat. The operation to clear the obstacles is in progress.

Shirady ghat, Charmady ghat, Ankola to Pune road, Rail ( train services ) both to Bengaluru and Mumbai all stopped due to landslide and fallen trees during rainy season. The situation is grim for coastal districts nearly cut off from other districts and places.
