Mangaluru: MCC sets deadline to severe rainwater flow into sewers

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Aug 8: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) here has set a deadline of seven days to connect only the effluents from their houses to sewers and ensure that the rainwater flows only through the storm drains.

The city corporation commissioner has warned that stern steps would be taken against those who fail to comply with this requirement. He said that this warning has been issued after observing that a number of users of underground drainage have connected the rainwater accumulating around their residences to the sewer lines.

He pointed out that connecting rainwater to underground drainage system results in spilling of waste water out of the manholes lining up the road when it rains. This water flows towards houses located at lower altitudes. Moreover, waste water also flows into the underground effluents processing units in excess of the limits for which they were designed, creating lot of problems. Because of these reasons, this instruction has been issued, he clarified.
