Mangaluru, Aug 9: Heavy rainfall continued in Karnataka coast, Malnad, and Kasargod coast. Three persons lost their lives due to rain-related incidents on Thursday. Holiday has been declared for all educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu and Kasargod districts on Friday.

The rainfall was relatively less in Mangaluru and Puttur taluks but ghat areas got heavy rainfall. Because of the rainfall in ghat section, both Netravati and Kumaradhara rivers experienced floods. The sinking bridge at Cherladka went under water for the third time in the year while the old bridge at Hosmath, Kadaba, also was submerged.

Udupi district received heavy rainfall in general. River Netravati exceeded the danger mark at Bantwal, crossing 8.9 metre mark. About ten houses at Aladka near Panemangaluru were inundated and families were shifted elsewhere. MLA,Rajesh Naik Ulippady, former minister, B Ramanath Rai, deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil etc visited flood-affected areas. On Thursday, reports about damage to 36 houses was reported.

Kodagu

Kodagu district continued to get heavy rainfall and catchment areas of all the rivers are facing threat of flooding. As the meteorological department predicted heavy rains to continue, red alert has been sounded in the district till August 10.

Deputy commissioner Anees Kanmani Joy, said that the district administration has undertaken all kinds of precautionary measures to handle the situation and asked the locals to extend cooperation during the visit by officials. He has asked the people and the tourists to be careful.

As many as 21 relief camps have been setup in the district in which 993 people belonging to 323 families have been sheltered. Because of floods, landslides have occurred at 13 places and transport facilities have been severed, the officials said.
