Mangaluru: Dr P S Harsha takes charge as city police commissioner

Mangaluru, Aug 9: IPS officer Dr P S Harsha took over charge as the Mangaluru city here at police commissioner’s office on Friday, August 9.

Sandeep Patil who was the police commissioner earlier was transferred to be replaced by state intelligence division DIG Dr Subrahmanyeshwar Rao. Soon, through another transfer order, Dr P S Harsha was appointed the police commissioner of the city in the place of Dr Subrahmanyeshwar Rao.

Dr P S Harsha has experience of performing official police duty here in the past. He began his duties as Puttur ASP. He was the commissioner of the department of information during 2017-18.

About DR P S Harsha

Dr Harsha IPS is a Kannadiga with roots in rich cultural fort city of Chitradurga. A doctor by learning and police officer by profession, he is a 2004 batch IPS officer who chose civil services immediately after graduating in medicine.

He is a multifaceted personality who believes in living the life to the fullest. An avid traveller who likes travelling in Western Ghats, he has deep interest in wild life conservation.

On professional count he has handled many assignments with multifarious roles. On policing side, he has served as ASP, Gulbarga Under/Training and marked his innings with significant drop in organised crime. Later on as Asp Puttur, he was instrumental in stabilising communal tensions. Moving on as SP of Tumakuru, he did significant work and was awarded Chief Ministers’ award for Police Welfare and innovative methods of policing.

He has worked in Bengaluru as deputy commissioner of police in 3 zones, South East, North east and East. He was awarded Chief Ministers’ Medal in 2016 for his contribution for making Bangalore city a lot safer.

Beyond policing, he has served as managing director of Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation and instrumental in making Karnataka a true global tourism destination.

During his stint as commissioner, Information and Public Relations, he changed the way government communicates and made governance people friendly. In his last post as director (security and vigilance) of KSRTC, he focussed on new age mobility solutions and making public transport more attractive to help in decongestion of roads.

A true connoisseur of arts, it is his favourite pastime to listen to Hariprasad Chaurasia.

    whoever come to control Mangalore traffic and crimes, most important is dedicated police Commissioner who can control pedestrians crossings, zebra crossings, safety of all people at night and respect for senior citizens in the bus .

    Hello sir...First of all kindly ensure that all Mangalore city roads have lane markings. A bright white markings with "Stop" written on junctions or road intersections.
