Mangaluru: I year BE classes inaugurated at St Joseph Engineering College

Mangaluru, Aug 10: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), here,inaugurated its first year BE classes for the academic year 2019-20 on Saturday August 10.

Suraj Chettri, head of Human Resources at Airbus India, Bengaluru, was chief guest at the occasion.

Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director of SJEC, Fr Rohith D’Costa and Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, assistant directors of SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal of SJEC, Dr Ramananda H S, coordinator of first year BE were also present on the dais.

Dr Vincent Crasta, head of Physics department welcomed the gathering.



Addressing the newcomers, Dr Rio D’Souza said that the management of SJEC is happy to welcome this new batch and their parents. He remarked that students opt to join SJEC owing to the discipline of the college. He went on to say that even though discipline is the priority of the college, it is blended with affection and care toward the students. He mentioned about the motto of VTU which says 'Above all, be human' and called upon all the new students to be human first along with being engineers.

Suraj Chettri inaugurated the ceremony and felicitated the students for their PU and CET achievements. In his inaugural speech, Suraj said that the students are free to have fun, make friends and enjoy, but studies should be their first priority. He mentioned that engineering is the right profession and engineers will never go out of fashion. He quoted some of the engineering marvels around the globe and called upon the students to make good use of their time at SJEC. He urged the students to try and solve complex real life problems in a cost effective way. He wished that the students not only become excellent engineers, but will also become humble engineers too.

In his presidential address, Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza welcomed the students to the campus and said it is going to be a new phase of their life as engineering students. He said that SJEC is known to be a green and clean campus with good infrastructure and competent faculty members. He assured the parents of the first year students that their wards are at the right place. He called upon the students to remain grounded to their roots even if they happen to touch the epitome of success as they embark on their journey of life.

Dr Ramananda rendered the vote of thanks. Rachana Crasta and Pramila Rita D’Souza compered the event.
