Mangalore: City Advocate’s Murder Averted: DCIB Police Arrest Nine Underworld Elements

Mangalore, Jun 21: An attempt to abduct a City advocate for ransom and murder was foiled by the District Crime Intelligence Bureau minutes before it could be executed on Saturday, June 20. DCIB police have arrested nine members of an underworld gang along with 9 mm pistol, ten live rounds, a bike, car, an autorickshaw, eight mobile phones and several sharp weapons.
The nine persons were arrested based on a complaint by an advocate, which the police refused to disclose, at Mangalore East police station that a group of three youngsters came to his office at the Bunts Hostel on Saturday and demanded to pay up money at the gun point. They also threatened him that if he failed to meet the demand he will be kidnapped in the evening and subsequently killed.
Gathering information on the gangs and finally zeroing in a gang, DCIB police immediately sprung into action and arrested five members on a definite information that the gang was proceeding towards the advocate’s office intercepted a car at Karangalpady near Bunts Hostel in the City. The five arrested and identified as Anish Shetty, Harisha alias Cocaine Harish, Deekshit Poojary, Deepak Poojary and Aneesh Leepak Lasrado.
On questioning the boys immediately confessed to the crime and said that they had planned to abduct the advocate to a secret location in Kambalapadavu near Konaje. On further interrogation, the five members gave out the name of the four more gang members who were at the secret location at Konaje and also that the gang members were working under the direction of Koraga Vishwanth Shetty, an underworld don living abroad. The names of the four members later arrested are Ajay Karkera, Ganesh, Nawaz and Lokesh Devadiga.
Inspector general of police (western range) Gopal B Hosur briefing the media, said that it is a major murder case that the police team foiled in the recent times. DCIB team was awarded with Rs 25,000. He also added that the police was examining on imposition of KCOCA Act on the accused.
Superintendent of police Subrahmanyeswar Rao said that this is the third underworld gang, which the police have nabbed, recently. Rasheed Malabari and his associates arrested in March and Ravi Poojary’s gang who were behind Advocate Naushad’s murder case were the other two, he said.
As a move towards providing relief to the public and preventing extortion cases, the recent arrests could be considered as a major achievement, he said.
