Kundapur, Aug 24: A new Gulvady gram panchayat is carved out of Karkunje gram panchayat that functions at Gulvady. As it is on a corner of the gram, villagers find it difficult to go there. Therefore, they are urging to construct a gram panchayat in between the limits in the land set aside for the purpose.
Gulvady gram panchayat has four wards and 13 members. The permanent building for the panchayat is yet to be constructed. The villagers have submitted a request to deputy commissioner, zilla panchayat officials and concerned officials in this connection.
The matter came for discussion in the gram panchayat meeting held at Karkunje on March 27. The villagers said that the spot set aside for the panchayat building is close to the high school, temple, higher primary school, mosque, bank, cooperative society, Anganwadi and public bus stop which are away from the current location of the gram panchayat. The villagers warned of protests if their demand is not met.
The villagers want the name of the gram panchayat to remain as Gulvady.
