Bengaluru, Aug 28: Karnataka state chief secretary, T M Vijay Bhaskar, said that 90 percent of the work of submitting proposals for flood relief from the central government has been completed. He said that as of now, the estimated loss has touched Rs 33,000 crore. 

He was speaking to media persons here on Tuesday August 27. He said that the work of preparing report as part of the proposal for flood relief is currently in progress. "At the same time, the process of scrutinizing flood loss inflicted on different districts in progress. The figure of rain-related loss has been going up with each passing day, and the verification of flood loss will continue for a few more days," he clarified.

Vijay Bhaskar said that families which have lost their houses are being paid Rs 5,000 per month as rent for hiring houses on temporary basis. "We have also been arranging sheds and marriage halls for their stay. Our relief centres will be operated till their need is felt. People who return to their homes from the relief centres are being given ten kg rice, pulses, oil and other items by way of kit," he explained. 

To a question on the practicability of diverting drought relief amount of Rs 1,000 crore given by the central government towards flood relief, he said this diversion of funds is not permissible. He said that resources are being pooled for flood relief, and entrepreneurs and employees have been extending possible help in this direction.
