Mangaluru, Aug 28: As an alert and precautionary measure and as a part of maintaining the law and order in the city, the police held a parade of more than 355 habitual and noted rowdies of the city belonging to 17 police stations under the commissionerate limits at Police Samudaya Bhavan in the city on Wednesday, August 28.

The hooligans were warned by the senior police officers, under the leadership of city police commissioner Dr P S Harsha, against any act of disturbing the social harmony of the city. They were warned and a case was registered as a step to maintain peace.

The police commissioner conversed with all the hooligans and said the law of the land should be respected and the bail instructions to be followed. He also informed them that the police have all the power to curb criminal activities and anti-social elements. So criminals, who have faulted once, should not repeat the same. He also cautioned that anyone repeating the criminal act will face severe consequences.

The police commissioner also gave an offer of helping them by getting livelihood opportunities for a legal job upon demonstrating good behaviour.

A RIGHT STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. This is theme that is followed by the present commissioner of Police Dr. Harsha. It is expedient that all people of GOODWILL join hands with the Police Department to maintain law and order at all times.

In Mangalore, the biggest threat to peace from fanatic Hindu organization who thrash innocent people in the name of 'Pub attack', 'Morning mist attack' and livestock transporting vehicles in the name of 'Gau Raksha' who gets full political and legal backing from the ruling party.

The Police commissioner should address this issue first. Secondly, the department should have 'Zero tolerance' against narcotics.

No peace will be restored unless politics and criminal nexus is not broken. For that honesty is required who works on ethics.

Perhaps Police commissioner has not read the report prepared on police adequacy and working conditions by the NGO Common Cause and Lokniti programme of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies was released on Tuesday, August 27 by Jasti Chelameswar, former Supreme Court Judge.

According to this report, 50% of police officials feel Muslims are naturally prone to crimes show Islamophobia in the police that also indicates how poor the screening and training is done for Criminal Procedure Codes, the (Indian) Penal Code and the Evidence Act.

The survey was conducted across 21 states, about 12,000 police officials were interviewed in the police station and 11,000 of their family members were also interviewed.

But one observation made by the judges says “One committed officer can make all the difference. But who will put that one officer there,”.

So 'Rowdy Parade' is merely a waste of time. The regular transfer of the officers itself proves that this city political system will never want change to restore law and order.
