Karkala, Aug 29: A shopkeeper here, who used to get gold ornaments made and sold them, was cheated by some people who sold him fake gold by making him believe that they were genuine. However, the realization came much later.
In a complaint filed in the town police station here, Sudheer from Karkala Casba village stated that Vajresh Kumar from the town, Iqbal from Moodbidri, Javed from Kasargod, Ashfaq Akbar from Belur, Lokesh from Mudigere and Sachin from Chikkamagaluru had showed him samples of gold. They received Rs 25 lac from him on May 14 this year and handed over to him fake gold instead of genuine, he said. The police have registered the case.
Sudheer tried to get the above gold melted for getting ornaments made on August 27. He said he realized then that he had been taken for a ride.
