Hubballi, Aug 31: "In the wake of the state intelligence report and the instruction from the center that there is a possibility of terrorists carrying out attacks in the state, high alert is declared throughout the state," said home minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking to the reporters, the minister said, "It is possible to turn the state into a model state only when there is peace, law and order. This onerous responsibility lies on the shoulders of the home department. Accordingly, till three days after assuming power, I have discussed issues with the senior officials and departmental heads. People who are in distress have to be dealt with in a humane manner when they approach the police station. Their complaint should be registered and suitable investigation needs to be carried out. I have instructed the police officers to take uninhibited action against anti-social elements and those involved in illegal activities.
"There is need to do lots of improvements in the home department. In view of this discussions are held several times with regard to the recruitment, training, increasing the self-confidence and self-esteem of the police personnel by taking suitable actions and also introducing new technology like cybercrime etc. These actions are already discussed with the finance department and reforms on a large scale will be brought in the police department in coming days."
