Sat, Aug 31 2019Everyday tall claims made by Big Jumla Party Or BJP on notes ban 'Fake currency' after PM Modi's pet project of 'Demonetisation' gets exposed in its own ruled state.
Fake currency: Only 0.002% of the total currency in circulation is counterfeit. This means: of every 10 lakh or one million currency notes in the system, only 250 are fake. This is a statistically insignificant number. It is important to weed out these notes - but not by declaring 86% of the total currency (by value) illegal.
The prime minister outlined three sets of objectives, (i) “to break the back" of corruption and black money, (ii) to end the circulation of fake currency and (iii) to end terrorist financing. The gazette notification outlined the same three objectives but did not mention corruption.
The BJP-led NDA government, which places so much importance on the packaging, had to suitably wrap demonetization in a manner that would sell. It was therefore not surprising that ending fake currency circulation and terrorism financing was tagged along with the main objective of rooting out black money. These two objectives were drawn up at a time when a fervor against “anti-nationals" had been cultivated. By themselves, neither objective made much sense.
Since the new series of currency notes did not have any additional unique security features, Demonetisation proves a big failure. I don't think the nation has ever recovered from it to date.
Now counterfeiters become more technologically superior and does 'surgical strike' every day on the crumbling economy of India.
