Puttur, Sep 2: In a tragic accident that occurred on the morning of Monday, September 2 at Kavu on the Mani-Mysuru state highway, four people of the same family lost their lives when the car in which they were travelling fell into a road side pond, after the driver lost its control.

The deceased have been identified as Ashok (48), his wife Hemalatha, son Yashas and daughter Varsha. It is learnt that all the deceased are natives of Shuntikoppa. They were returning to Shuntikoppa after visiting Mangaluru.

A case in this regard is registered at Sampya police station. The bodies were shifted to Puttur government hospital.

This pond which is by the side of the main road is very dangerous. Public had urged to close this pond long back. However, this pond belongs to a private individual and he is not allowing the same to be closed. Now it has taken the lives of four people.

Very sad.A big tragody taking lives of four within a sekund.May their souls find peace in Heaven.did anyone notice if driver was driving very fast at the curve or he was tired of driving for long time in hot weather? That can also sometime cause driver very tired and automatically fall in a second sleep without his knowledge. Then he cant control anymore.Drivers must be very careful during hot sun.drink enough.whoom to blame ?big tragody.Am sure the owner self was driving?Pond was only here the onlooker.but owner of the pond could fence around so that in future noone can fall inside and loose their life.

Looks like it is the responsibility of the road/highway authorities to build a barricade to prevent vehicles from falling in the pond.

The pond is a water collection point which could also supply water to the water table below it. Closing it would lessen a water source.
