New Delhi, Jul 4: Jewellery worth nearly Rs.10 million and Rs.38,000 in cash were stolen from a businessman's plush Sainik Farms house in south Delhi, police said Friday.
Vineet Jain, 38, who returned after a week from Kolkata with his family Thursday, reported about the theft to the police Friday morning.
The police said five family members and 20 servants were in the house at the time of incident. Jain, who owns an auto showroom, told police that Friday morning they noticed that the bag containing the jewellery was open and the jewels and money were missing. His wife works as a jewellery trader.
The police after preliminary investigations said they suspected an insider's hand in the incident.
"Vineet, his wife and daughter slept in one room. Jain's mother and sister slept in the other rooms. The bag which contained all the jewellery and cash was kept in the couple's room in the evening," a police officer said.
"The prime suspects in the case are the servants, whom we believe could have entered and stolen the items from the bag. They even knew where the bag was kept and what it contained," the officer added.
The police said they have registered a case at the Neb Sarai police station and are investigating.
