Bengaluru: Minister moots door delivery of liquor like milk sachets

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Sep 5: Excise minister, H Nagesh, said that a proposal to issue identity cards to people addicted to liquor and supplying liquor at their doorsteps is under consideration. He clarified that this is being done to avoid drunken driving and bring down accidents arising out of it.

Nagesh was speaking at a press meet after holding meeting with officials of his department on Wednesday. He said that the identity cards would be provided through the deputy commissioner of the district and that good quality liquor would be delivered by the excise department.

The minister said that a decision about what documents people need to submit to get the said identity cards is yet to be taken. He said a decision would be arrived at after discussing the matter with officials and the general public. He added that there is no proposal to prescribe Aadhaar card as a mandatory requirement for issuing the cards. The minister also clarified that the department is not considering the proposal to   transport drunken people lying in public places to their homes and also extend protection to their families, as is being made out in certain media and websites. He said that such measures would encourage the drunkards.

"We have asked excise officials to take steps against illicit liquor brewing units. The officials will be held responsible if illegal liquor is found to be sold in their areas. As we are aware that people living in Tandas are consuming substandard liquor and spoiling their health, we propose to introduce mobile shops to sell good quality liquor to them. There is proposal to open 1,800 outlets of Mysore Sales International Ltd," he explained.

Nagesh acknowledged that 43 percent of the posts in his department are remaining vacant and the process of appointing superintendents, excise sub-inspectors, excise inspectors and drivers is under way. He felt that placing total ban on liquor consumption is impossible and currently there is no proposal to issue new licences.

    Stupidity at its height.
Why don't we as a nation grow up and remove control over sale of liquor.
Get to the source of liquor production, get the excise duty and work towards ensuring that duplicate stuff does not get sold and allow sale of alcohol like Coke or any other commodity.
You can easily save on the bureaucratic setup needed to monitor, as well as take care of distribution since it is now a prerogative in the hands of individual sellers.

Dear Minister, Please issue drinking permits to those who consume Liquor. Good quality permits should start from A - 001 , A - 002 ....... Medium quality start from B - 001 ..... Low quality from C-001 ....
Bad quality D-001 .... . Let all alcohol drinking people register with with state Revenue dept. and you arrange to deliver respective alcohol to their residents. Employment to delivery boys. DATA of Alcohol people, how much they consume in a month. Then open a club for them and get membership fee. arrange taxi facility for them so that taxi drivers also can earn. very good idea Mr. Minister. Indirect plan to kill the people slowly.

Very bad idea, seems the minister has lost his mind ....
What guarantee will he give, the drunken man not go out after drinking home delivered alcohol and meet with accident and pick up fights ....
Alcohol is social evil, it is good if consumed responsibly and occasionally, i would support to ban the hard liquor and strong beer .... It makes you poor, lethargic, confused, slower metabolism and several liver and kidney related complications ....
If the govt. cannot ban alcohol, atleast restrict its sale and accessibility .... It is not a life saving drug that you deliver at home ....

If Alcohol is sold just to earn revenue then better sell drugs to better revenue at the cost of ruining families and destroying culture .
Look at Gujarat most richest people, all industries are prospering ,Asian business is controlled by them just because of Vegetarianism and sober thinking where alcohol is banned .

Yes, Mr. Mukkawal is true, liquor is not easily available to poor in Gujarat, those who afford costly - smuggled stuff only consume there ....
I have traveled all over Gujarat, liquor is not there in their day to day culture, it is not a part of their festivals or celebrations .... If you crave and have money to spend, then can find a bootlegger anywhere, even though people drink at home and don't come out on the street, here the law and people are strict for the drunken menace ....
People in Gujarat are more workaholic and punctual, nobody bothers about politics and no labour union kind of things .... Women are happy that men earn good money and do not get into alcoholism ....

The BJP is quite actively pursuing the case of Notebandi (demonetisation), meat-ban, and ban on triple talaq, however, what cannot be denied is that the alcohol that is sold in India is exceedingly harmful to the people.

Alcohol is not only harmful for the health of those who consume it but is damaging to the entire society from economic, social, environmental and other perspectives. Bjp's concern over muslim women is much greater than those women who suffering from domestic torture due to their husbands alcoholic nature and others get abandoned.
