Mangaluru: Rangachavadi Award to be conferred on Sarvotham Shetty

Mangaluru, Sep 5: Rangachavadi, art and cultural organization of the city is honouring achievers from various fields during its annual celebration by conferring 'Rangachavadi' award on them. Through this act, the organization is giving suitable honour to art and culture. This year, the organization has selected Sarvotham Shetty, Abu Dhabi, who is renowned as the cultural ambassador of coastal Karnataka in the Gulf region, for the coveted award. 

The award will be conferred on Sarvotham Shetty on October 11, 2019 at 4 pm at the Town Hall in city. In addition, the anniversary celebration of the organization will also take place at the same time. 

 

 

Sarvotham Shetty is the pioneer, who has given elaborate identity to the cultural beauty of the coastal region of Karnataka in the Gulf countries. Sarvotham is involved in various organizations. The name Sarvotham itself is the emblem of achiever. According to his name, Sarvotham Shetty has proved that he is the best among all through the success he has achieved since decades in the Gulf country of UAE. 

Sarvotham Shetty is a native of Parika of Udupi district. He is the son of Mattaru Parari Soorappa Shetty and Parika Saraswati Hegde couple. He completed his primary and PU education at Perdoor and Hiriyadka respectively. Later he went to Mumbai in search of employment. He completed his college education while working in Mumbai. This was the first sign of an achiever in him. He worked for sometime in a hotel in Mumbai and was successful in getting a job in the office of the solicitor. Sarvotham completed government commercial diploma from Bombay University while working in the solicitor's office. His thirst for education was never ending. He further completed his B Com in 1978 from R A College of Commerce and Economics. 

During his college days itself, Sarvotham Shetty used to show his leadership qualities by getting involved in all the activities. He was very active member of the college students' union. He was the representative of Poddar college in Bombay University Senate in 1977. This was one of the main features of the leadership qualities in him. He had worked in a pharmaceutical company for some time before completing his degree education. He also served in Syndicate Bank and had acquired thorough knowledge of banking and finance. 

Interest in art and culture from college days 

Sarvotham was attracted towards drama art during his college days itself. He had attracted the attention of people by competing in the inter-college drama competitions. His lead act in the drama 'Haggadakone' by Parvatavani was lauded by all. This act proved that he is an able and brilliant stage actor. 

Sarvotham Shetty, along with like-minded friends, founded 'Kalajagathu' organization, which is at the peak of its reputation today, in 1979. He has given life to many talents through this organization. Now this organization is known as one of the important art and cultural organization and has bagged several significant and prestigious awards and continues to serve the art and culture. 

The turning point in the life of Sarvotham Shetty was the employment he got in a leading company of UAE. He joined International Distribution Establishment company and shouldered important responsibility. He served the organization for 25 years and in the process not only contributed to the growth of the company, but also grew himself. At present he is having his own business in Abu Dhabi, capital city of United Arab Emirates (UAE). 

Sarvotham Shetty started various organizations in UAE while he was working and united Tulu and Kannada speaking people working in UAE. He founded organizations like Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi, UAE Buntara Sangha, UAE Tulukoota, Namma Tuluver and serves the art and culture of the coastal region of Karnataka through these organizations. 

Sarvotham Shetty was elected unanimously as the president of India Social Centre, which is the prestigious association of Gulf county and the pride of Kannadigas, for the fiscal of 1999-2000. It was the first time in the 50-year long history of the association that a person was elected as the president unanimously. He was the president of the same organization again for the year 2002-2003. He served as the vice-president of this organization in 1995-96. In addition, Sarvotham was the founder vice-president of Abu Dhabi Toastmaster International and was the Competent Toast Master (CTM) of it. 

Sarvotham Shetty is the member of the administrative committee of prestigious Abu Dhabi Indian School. This is a renowned school of Abu Dhabi, which is affiliated to Indian CBSE board and has 7,500 students on board. 

The credit of starting throw ball tournament for men and women in gulf also goes to Sarvotham Shetty. Presently Koosamma Shambhu Shetty memorial throw ball tournament is being held under his leadership and with the joint participation of various organizations of gulf, in which, not only teams from gulf region but also from Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi and Haryana also take part. This shows the reputation of this tournament. 

Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha was conferred with the 'Suvarna Karnataka Rajyostava' award during the presidency of Sarvotham. The specialty of this award is that it was awarded on the Silver jubilee year of the organization. 

Family life 

Sarvotham Shetty is married to Kaup Kothwalguthu Usha Shetty and has two children, Samarth Shetty and Samyukta Shetty. His son Samarth is working as a senior piping engineer in Abu Dhabi. Daughter Samyukta Shetty is working as instrumentation engineer in Abu Dhabi. Both are old students of BIT college of Bengaluru. 

Honours and awards 

Sarvotham Shetty has received Karnataka Rajyotsava award in 1998 for his service to society and culture, Nobleman award at the Akhila Bharatha Kannada Cultural convention that was held in 2006 at Mumbai, Aryabhata award in 2008, Globalman award at the World Kannada cultural convention that was held at Kuwait in 2009, Sundar Ram Shetty award conferred by the Vijaya Bank workers' organization, Taulava award from the Bengaluru Tulu Koota in 2017, Vishwa Kannadiga and Kadamba awards in 2018 and Lifetime achievement award in 2018 at the World Bunt Sammilan programme that was held in Udupi. Now Rangachavadi award also joins this august list. 

Significant positions held 

Sarvotham Shetty is the president of Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation, UAE unit. He was the president of Vishwa Tulu Ayano that was held at Badiyadka of Kasaragod district in the state of Kerala in 2016. He is the chairman of ISC Professional and Entrepreneur Forum Abu Dhabi. He is also the member of the executive committee of Indian Business and Professional Group of Abu Dhabi. Sarvotham Shetty was the honorary president of the 'Tulunadocchaya' that was held in 2017 at Pilikula of Mangaluru. In addition, he was the president of World Tulu Convention taht was held in Dubai in 2018. 

The service rendered by Sarvotham Shetty, residing in a foreign land, to the culture and art of Tulunadu and Kannada is commendable. He is also a model for the ability and leadership qualities of the bunt community.
