Bengaluru, Sep 6: The Hyderabad-Karnataka region will be renamed as ‘Kalyana Karnataka’ as per the decision of the BJP government headed by chief minister B S Yediyurappa taken at the state cabinet meeting held in Bengaluru on Friday.
With this, the term Hyderabad-Karnataka will be replaced with Kalyana Karnataka in all government records and the Hyderabad-Karnataka Development Board will be renamed as Kalyana Karnataka Development Board.
Briefing reporters after the state cabinet meeting, law minister J C Madhuswamy said the decision was taken following a petition submitted by 41 MLAs of the region.
The MLAs had submitted the petition to the previous JD(S)-Congress coalition government headed by H D Kumaraswamy. But the coalition government had not taken any decision on the renaming issue.
The region has been granted a special status under the Constitution (Article 371 J) owing to its backwardness during the UPA regime.
The region comprises Bidar, Ballari, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur and Yadgir districts.
“There are 41 legislators from the region and all of us had submitted a memorandum to the government to formally rename the region,” Sedam BJP MLA Rajkumar Patil said.
Solar Policy tweaked to set up 25 mw solar parks
In another decision, the state cabinet moved to amend the Karnataka Solar Policy (2014-21) for enabling investors to set up solar parks with 25 MW capacity.
Earlier, plants generating 100 MW were declared solar parks. More than 500 acres were required for setting up 100 MW solar parks and this has discouraged many investors to set up solar parks in the state.
Under the new amendments, investors have to set up 25 MW plant to declare it as a solar park and this would enable them to get subsidy from the Centre.
Pay revision to police
The State Cabinet has ratified an order issued by the previous coalition government on revision of pay-scale of police personnel based on the Auradhkar Committee report.
The pay scale would come into effect from August 1, 2019. This would cost the State exchequer Rs387.26 crore.
The cabinet has dropped the previous government’s decision to post a member of the Karnataka Human Rights Commission to its circuit bench in Dharwad.
The KHRC functions as a commission and all three members of the commission would go there as a circuit bench.
BSY promises steps for comprehensive development of Bengaluru
B S Yediyurappa has reiterated BJP government’s commitment for the comprehensive development of Bengaluru.
Addressing a meeting convened to discuss steps for the development of the State Capital at his home office Krishna in the morning on Friday, he asked the officials to submit a proposal for development of all the eight zones in the city including appointment of four special commissioners.
He asked the civic agencies to ensure that the roads and parks in the city were kept clean and tidy if necessary by appointing more pourakarmikas. Steps must be taken to fill up the potholes and improve the condition of roads, he said.
The chief minister directed the city corporators and officials to constitute ward committees for each of the corporation wards and ensure that these bodies hold meetings regularly every month.
He also tasked the officials to set up helplines for the redressal of grievances of the public and establishment of solid waste management units for the disposal of garbage.
Deputy chief minister Dr C N Ashwatha Narayan, MPs Rajeev Chandrashekar and P C Mohan, BBMP Commissioner Anil Kumar and Chief Secretary T M Vijay Bhaskar as well as MLA S R Vishwanath attended the meeting.
