Bangalore, Jul 8 (The Hindu): The beauticians were racing against time to finish applying make-up on the models as part of “Unique 2009”, a State-level competition organised by the Akhila Karnataka Beauty Parlours’ Association, here on Tuesday.

Competitions under the categories of make-up, hairstyle and mehendi were organised. Beauticians from Bangalore, Belgaum, Gulbarga and Chitradurga took part in the competitions.

Anitha, who has been running a beauty parlour for the last nine years, said, “This profession has given me financial stability and has helped me educate my daughters. Such events will help us scale new heights.”

Aim

Anitha Sharli, founder and president of the association, said, “Our aim is to promote advanced certified courses in this field and help women attain financial stability.”

The association strives to set standard disciplinary codes for all beauty parlours and try to reduce the number of parlours run by untrained beauticians.

The association has around 400 lifetime members whom they educate on the latest equipment and trends. Harini Simha, general secretary of the association, said, “We provide free basic training for two years after which the trainees are asked to work under professional beauticians for about six to eight months. This gives them good exposure.”

Around 20 people have been trained since the programme was started last year.

Winners

The winners of the competition received their prizes from film director Murthy. S; president of Lions Club West and founder of Holy Child Convent Shobha Satish; zone manager, Loreal, Mamta Kumbla; manager, Canara Bank, Pusha G. Kumar and actor Bhagyashree.

The association called upon people to visit authorised beauty parlours and get services from professional beauticians.

A monthly magazine, “Beautician Special” aimed at creating awareness about beautician courses and beauty tips, was released at the occasion.

Actor Sreemathi; make-up artistes Raghunath R., Leila Sharma, Zareen; beautician Margaret Panthaki and Vijayanagar MLA M. Krishnappa were present.
