Raja Bhaiya's father placed under house arrest

Pratapgarh, Sep 10 (IANS): The district administration has ordered that Uday Pratap Singh, father of Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh aka Raja Bhaiya, be put under house arrest in Kunda because he was insistent on organising the recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa and organising a community kitchen on Muharram.

The Sub Divisional Magistrate of Kunda, Mohanlal Gupta said, "Uday Pratap Singh will remain under house arrest till Tuesday night. Section 144 has been imposed in the area and heavy police force has been deployed."

Registering their protest against the house arrest of Singh, the local traders kept their shops closed.

On August 30, Singh filed a petition before the Lucknow bench of the High Court seeking permission for recitation of Hanuman Chalisa from September 9 to 12 and for organising a community kitchen on September 10.

The District Magistrate sent a report to the High Court saying that the permission to organise a community kitchen on Muharram might disturb the peace in the area, hence permission can't be granted.

Singh organises a community kitchen at the Hanuman temple on the Prayagraj-Lucknow highway in Shekhpura village every year on Muharram. But for the last two years, the administration has not been permitting him to organise the community kitchen.
