Udupi: Seven labourers, 12 children living in tent near highway rehabilitated

Udupi, Sep 13: District child protection unit and town police station personnel, in a joint operation, rehabilitated seven Gadag-based construction labourers and 12 children who were living in a tent beside national highway 66 near Karavali bypass here under inhuman conditions. They were exposed to hostile weather, danger from vehicles, besides being deprived of basic amenities. 

Two among these children who attend a government school, used to play on the roadsides and were facing the risk of meeting with accidents on this busy highway. District child protection unit asked the migrant families to shift their tent to a safer place a little away from Nittur road for convenience and children’s safety. The unit gave them three days’ time limit for the purpose.

District child protection officer, Dayanand, legal inspector, Prabhakar Achar, social workers, Yogish and Gleesha Monteiro, and Udupi town station police official, G S Shivamath, took part in the operation.

    My hats off to District child protection unit and Town Police personnel along with the entire team who took part in rehabilitation of the seven laborers and 12 children living in a tent in a very bad condition.

    District administration must construction labour camp at Mangalore and Udupi District for migrant workers who migrate from other parts of state with good facilities>

    in Gulf also govt construct labour camp for migrate workers.

    Just asking them to shift is not enough.... govt and govt employees have good accumulated money.. . as there are many schemes for below poverty line people.. they can do something so that these poor people get a small house for themselves and for the saftey of children.. just moving them to other place is not a big thing to be shown on news....
