Mumbai, Sep 13: Former MLA of Sion-Koliwada constituency here, Jagannath A Shetty (75) passed away at Leelavati Hospital, Bandra on Friday morning.
Jagannath Shetty, was the son of Shirva, Udupi residents Acchanna Shetty and Kalyani A Shetty. He grew up as a child worker and later owned a hotel at Ghatkoper east. He was a student of Karnataka free night high school and became MLA from Matunga constituency from National Congress party (I) in 2004. He also contested elections and was elected as MLA from bifurcated Sion Koliwada constituency from Maharashtra government in 2009. He had contested elections for the third time in 2014 also.
He was close to former union minister late Gurudas Kamath. He was identified as a sincere Congress worker with his hard work and was popular as social worker and influential leader in Mumbai.
Jagannath Shetty has left behind his wife, two sons and a large number of friends and relatives. Office bearers of local groups and elite have expressed their condolences on his demise. His last rites were held at Sion crematorium on Friday September 13.
