Kolkata, Jul 14: Gokul Chattopadhyay got married at a very young age and could not continue her education after passing out from school. But now, at the age of 86, her dreams of pursuing higher studies have come true as she appears for an undergraduate examination.
Chattopadhyay, a resident of Kakulia road in south Kolkata, is appearing for the BA General Part-I examination this year at the Netajinagar College for Women.
"She is appearing for the exam in our college. We are really surprised to see her enthusiasm in this old age. She is as motivated as any other student," Sudin Banerjee, a college official, told IANS.
Considering Gokul's age, the college authorities have shifted her seat from the second floor to the ground floor.
"She is steadily answering her papers," Banerjee said.
According to her family, Gokul was a regular student of South City College and had taken special permission from college authorities to secure admission.
Gokul always wanted to pursue higher studies but she married at a young age and then had to bear the entire responsibility of the family as her husband died 30 years ago.
