Mangaluru, Sep 26: Three persons were arrested by the police in connection with the Bhavanthi Street Arun Jewellers theft case that occurred on the night of September 2 under the north police station limits.
The arrested are identified as Muhthasimu CM alias Taslim (39), a resident of Kerala, Wali Mohammed Safi (45), resident of Kabul in Afghanistan and Mohammed Azim Khuram (25), a resident of Kabul in Afghanistan. Two people are absconding. They are Kunhi Ahmed from Kerala and Farid, an Afghan national.
Muhthasimu CM alias Taslim is prime accused in the case. He has 10 to 12 cases registered in stations of Bekal and Kasargod. He has links with underworld elements and also has connections in Dubai. The two Afghan nationals have cases registered against them in Delhi under the illegal arms act.
The accused burgled the jewelry shop by cutting through the safe locker of the store through gas drill and gained entry through the back of the shop. They stole gold and silver jewelry. The accused used equipment like advanced welding machine, oxygen cylinder and LPG cylinder in order to break the safe locker of the jewellery shop.
The value of the stolen gold weighing 3.43 kg is Rs 1, 02, 95,270 and value of silver weighing 20.66 kg is Rs 9,11,600. The police have recovered 2.753 kg gold bars and jewels worth Rs 9 lac from the arrested accused.
All the arrested accused persons were produced before the court on September 24. The accused were subsequently remanded to police custody. As two, among the arrested, are Afghan nationals, report about the arrest has been forwarded to the deputy secretary, ministry of external affairs, New Delhi for transmitting the same to the embassy of Afghanistan as per protocol.
A special team was formed under the supervision of police commissioner Dr P S Harsha, DCP crime and traffic Laxmi Ganesh, ACP central Bhaskar V, PI Shiva Prakash Naik, CCB PSI Kabbalraj, PI Govindraj and PSIs Pradeep, Sundar from North Police station, staff of CCB and ACP central squad, North Police station to crack the case.
