Bengaluru: Hirekerur former BJP MLA to contest against official candidate

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Sep 26: Former Hirekerur BJP MLA, U B Banakar, is angry at the chances of his rival, B C Patil, a former Congress MLA, being fielded as BJP's official candidate in Hirekerur constituency. He had been defeated by Patil in 2018 with a margin of 555 votes.

Banakar said that he has been working for the BJP since the last many years, and that in spite of defeats that came his way, he has worked for his party sincerely. Banakar has asserted that he will enter the election fray as an independent if the BJP does not issue ticket to him.

It is said that chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, had convened meetings with disqualified MLA, B C Patil, and former BJP MLA, U B Banakar in an effort to strike truce. But Banakar reportedly said that he has the support of local party workers and leaders and therefore it would be impossible for him to seek votes for his traditional rival.

It is said that some workers of the BJP from Hirekerur have threatened to commit suicide if the BJP issues ticket to anyone other than Banakar.

It is said that the BJP is facing similar issues in a number of constituencies represented by disqualified legislators.
