Mangaluru: Low turnout for VHP protest rally against alleged conversions at Mulky

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sep 27: The mega rally ‘People's movement against religious conversions’ organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Thursday September 26 at Shivaji dais, Mulky in the taluk, protesting against alleged conversions was attended by fewer people than anticipated.

National joint coordinator of Bajrang Dal, Sooryanarayana, urged the union government to enact strict laws at an early date against religious conversions being undertaken with the help of lures. He was delivering the keynote address at the rally.

He claimed that Hindus are being converted in Christian prayer centres without any hitch. He therefore asked the state government to promulgate prevention of religion conversions act. He also demanded stern action against those who achieve religious conversions through coercion, cheating or by offering rewards.

Sooryanarayana felt that there is a need for spreading awareness against religion conversions among the Hindus, and called upon the Swamijis and other religiously inclined persons to think of ways to protect Hinduism. He felt that there is a need to extend liberal help for the health and education of poor, backward Hindu families, and also to make efforts to bring back those who have deserted Hinduism.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad divisional secretary, Sharan Pumpwell, stressed that the protest now organized was not against the Christians, but against people who convert innocent Hindus by luring them to change their religions by offering rewards to them.

Bajrang Dal provincial convener, Sunil K R, Mangaluru division president, Gopal Kuthar, VHP Udupi president, Pramod Shetty Mudrady, and Dharma Jagaran provincial coordinator, Dinakar, were at the dais.

Moodbidri MLA, Umanath Kotian, leaders like Sunil Alva, Jagadish Shenava, Vinod Salian, Kasturi Panja, Bhuvanabhirama Udupa, Devaprasad Punarur, Vidya Mallya and others were present.

Santosh Suvarna welcomed. Shivananda Mendon compered the programme. Susheelraj proposed vote of thanks.

Before the meeting, after priest of Bappanadu temple, Sripati Upadhyaya, offered special prayers and Hanuman Chalisa was chanted, a procession was taken from the temple to the venue of the public meeting along with dignitaries.

Can any of these organizers cite an instance of anybody converted by force or conversion thru enticement or inducement or conversion in exchange for economic favours or other benefits? Do they posses any statistics or records or evidence of such conversions? Do they think people of our district are fools to attend such rallies other than to pass time?

Before protesting, please use your common sense.
    1. Why 70% majority Hindus are concerned about 2% Christians converting them?
    2. Why 70% Hindus are not converting Christians even though there are quite a few poor Christians.
    3. Get to know the process of converting to Christianity - it takes at least one year to prepare them with rigorous process. Free will is to be proved without any duress.
    4. Despite strict conversion laws in existence, can you get an RTI and let us know how many people were converted in the recent years by duress and how many convicted cases in Mangalore?
    5. Why there is a bee line by Hindus to get into Christian run schools. Are not they afraid of their children getting converted?

Finally, do your godfathers pay enough to carry out these rallies?. Let them know that this time it was a failure and find something else like Love Jehaad to divert citizens mind from this depressing economy with frauds and scandals.

I am not a supporter of conversion, but what I know that Divine Mission Center in Mulky is a place where people get enlightenment from retreats. It helps to evaluate ourselves and lead a spiritual, happy and peaceful life no matter what religion we belong to. Such retreats convert Hindus to be better Hindu, Christians to be better Christian, Muslims to be better Muslim and so on.....(words of St.Teresa of Culcutta).

Please note if you are strong in your faith nobody can convert you to any religion.

Its indeed everyone has right to profess and protect their religion. There is nothing wrong in bringing the issue to the public awareness. But we can not stop anyone to follow as per their wish any faith.
Its very difficult to become a catholic . I advise the gathered leaders should visit catholic church and discuss the laity leaderes about this and sortout their doubts. Mere making statements will not help to clear doubts.
The Elected leaders must keep away from all these issues. They are bound by the constitution and can not side any group. Infact they shoul try to bring them together and sort out the confusion.

Then the truth will prevail. Lood Luck

I am a Christian and I have travelled and visited so many Hindu temples across India till date. But I didnt see the importance of converting to recieve Gods blessings. And i believe God wont bless you if you convert for money. And most importantly, one gets converted only if his/her faith is not strong enough. So there is absolutely no meaning if anyone has been doing it by force as well. It is just a waste.

Worshipping God and Practicing Religion is the fundamental rights of every human. He/She has every right to choose any Religion of their choice at whatever age. This is a foremost fundamental right of human being and cannot be snatched. Of course there should never be force in conversation but only through proper understanding of other Religion.

If these VHP and other saffron outfit are scared that their people are getting converted to other Religion then they should check the flaws in their Religious teaching, rectify it, and make their people to learn and understand their religious scriptures, instead of trying to stop the conversation by force of law and power, this denying the very foremost fundamental right of a human being.

But no one thinks about Hindu educational institutions which exists before All these and used to give knowledge which was superior than any western education system that time.

Why all those institutions not available now? Why and who destroyed all those? Destroying indigenous culture of any place is big offence like destroying anything else.

Unfortunately many Bhakts don't understand what is written here. Often these Bhakts are lured to attend these kinds of rallies by giving incentives. So we have to pray hard for enlightenment which comes from God.

The low turn out may be indication of the fact that many people are beginning to understand the malicious intentions of the fringe groups, trying to disturb peace and harmony in our beautiful Mangalore. God is in control.
