Sainthood to Sr Thresia is matter of pride for every Indian: PM Modi

New Delhi, Sep 29 (Agencies) : In his ''Mann ki Baat'' radio programme, the Prime Minister referred to Sister Mariam Thresia who will be declared a saint by Pope Francis on October 13 at the Vatican City.

Referring to Sister Thresia, he said it is a matter of pride for every Indian that, on the coming October 13, Pope Francis will declare her a saint.

"Sister Thresia, in her short lifespan of 50 years, worked for the good of humanity becoming a noble example for the entire world. Whatever task Sister Mariam Thresia undertook and accomplished, she did so with utmost dedication and devotion," he said.

She rendered service in the fields of education and social service and has built many schools, hostels and orphanages, he pointed out.

"She founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family which is still continuing on the path of her life's philosophy and mission. I once again pay heartfelt tributes to Sister Mariam Thresia and congratulate the citizens of India, and especially our Christian brothers and sisters, for this achievement," he said.

PM Modi further said the campaign to shun single use plastic is set to be launched on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 as he praised Mr Belvi for being part of the unique initiative to protect the environment.

"...while we are celebrating ''Gandhi 150'', 130 crore countrymen have pledged to get rid from of the menace of single use plastic. In view of the kind of lead that India has taken towards environmental protection, today the countries of the entire world are looking towards India as a model example," he said in his address.

"I am confident that you will all be a part of the campaign for liberation from the menace of single use plastic on October 2," he added.

He said while plogging is in use in foreign countries, in India, Mr Belvi has promoted it in India to a great extent.

While talking to Mr Belvi over phone, the Prime Minister said the sports ministry too is organising a ''Fit India Plogging Run'' on October 2 in which participants from across India will plog for two km.

    @Dnyanesh,
A PM who used to crack jokes about an intellectual like ex PM M.Singh for being silent, need to "SPEAK UP" against growing hatred towards minorities which is fatal to this nation , Speak truth about Shutting Industries, Agriculture & job crises and may more failures or overall sinking economy. not me, but media should stop writing down composition to make people happy ans speak truth.

Why should the PM speak to make people happy ?

Confusion is, why did he have to pick a Christian personality to highlight sainthood - are there less saints among Hindus ? I.e, Chinmayanand as per the law student, that's how she introduced him to the world - a person from 'sant community'

    ???

Deshbhakt....Can you able to define sainthood in christanity. For that required certain number of miracles to be happened in his/her life. Do you know why vaticans refused to give sainthood to Mother Theresa.
Reason behind she not done any miracles in her life. It's due to pressure from life after so many years given sainthood..which is almost totally wrong as per customary.

There is a difference in pronouncing saint, ans self-proclaiming a saint. Living, self-proclaimed saints need not be doing all correct.

Did it came out from your heart dear Modiji.

There are many Christains serving poor and needy people. Ink other words there are many living saints. Their sainthood will come out only after their death. They are working with poor people. Your Bhakths harasing them and putting blame as conversion.

We will not do any conversion. We follow the words of our sweet Jesus. Love one another. Give and you will be received.

I am no religious preacher, or a spiritual teacher.
God forbid that we have become so brainwashed as to embrace a politician as a MESSIAH and believe what the media portrays him to be. Until their tenure is up and they have done their bit,
Every politician is just another politician.

Plastic words won't work. Same Modi in 2014 instigated you saying "Hinduism is in danger, vote for me to save India from Christianization".

Today he may have realised that it's difficult to walk alone without the support of Christians nations and at the same time christian population in India is static since Independence. Else, his music wouldn't have been as different as 180 degree opposite.

A trust once lost is impossible to regain through plastic (artificial) praises.

At least Shri Narendrabhai Modiji...went thru all layers of sainhood during his life time. It's what make him great not only in india but worldwide. Blessing for modiji showering from almighfy god itself and not from any people developed religious instiutions. For reach to this position he sacrificed whole life leaving behind all family members. One of messiah of modern world.

Sadly people like Sr Thresia who devote their entire lives for the service of the people have no ambition of becoming public servant eventhough they are most eligible and most deserving .

Some other people who do not devote their lives for the service of the people but only for themselves are very ambitious and want to become public servants somehow at any cost by hook or crook eventhough they are totally ineligible and not deserving at all. There is no credibility in these people's words or actions. It's rather mockery of their service.

At last you accepted it that all are not interested in CONVERSIONS including Mother Teresa !

Your cadre has got jaundices in their eyes as they cant see thru with their blind eyes that which is good and which is better !

Your own people so called SWAMI and BABA are proved to be fraudsters and betrayed thousand thousand people and with their faith and ridiculed them in front of the world !

even they ridiculed HINDU religion by mocking as the RELIGION LEADER WHO suppose to show the right path ! Yest there are good and bad things in every religion and with its LEADERS ! no one is exceptional ! when you are accepting something good that is called real leadership !

Thanks that you recognized something which has to be lauded by the GENERAL PUBLIC OF INDIA ! and that is the point !
